Toy drive during the 2015 Christmas season
ROCHESTER - UFCU members along with UFCU staff from Rochester and Webster branches held a toy drive during the 2015 Christmas season.


The toy drive was organized in partnership with our local RocMaidan organization and the toys were sent to children of displaced families and of fallen soldiers in Ukraine, Sumy region. We are proud to have been a part of this generous cause.
 
24th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence at the Irondequoit Town Hall on August 23
Rochester Community Celebrated the 24th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence at the Irondequoit Town Hall on August 23.

The celebratory event included many speeches from local and state politicians, a key note address by Michael Sawkiw Jr., director of UNIS, and greetings and reports from local organizations. Ukrainian FCU was a proud sponsor of this event. Two ambulances prepared for shipment to Odessa Ukraine were on display during the event. The ambulances have since been delivered to Ukraine to help save lives in the refugee and war-torn areas.

ROC Maidan partners with InterVol to deliver medical supplies to Ukraine

Local volunteers and UFCU representatives at IterVol preparing a shipment of medical supplies and equipment, worth over $350,000, to medical centers and hospitals in various regions of Eastern and Western Ukraine. ROC Maidan initiated this project to help those in need of medical treatment and rehabilitation suffering from the on-going war in Eastern Ukraine. InterVol, located in Irondequoit NY, is a nonprofit dedicated to providing medical supplies and equipment to those in need around the world.

Dr. Olha Bohomolets from Ukraine visits Boston
Boston – Dr. Olha Bohomolets from Ukraine visits Boston

On Sunday, January 17, the Ukrainian community of Boston had a wonderful opportunity to meet with Dr. Olha Bohomolets, a distinguished visitor from Ukraine.

Dr. Bohomolets is a distinguished physician, a social and political activist, and was a candidate for president of Ukraine in the 2014 election. Today she is a People's Deputy of Ukraine. During her visit to U.S.,

Dr. Bohomolets visited Harvard University for an international conference, and later met with the Ukrainian community of Boston. She visited the church of Christ the King in Jamaica Plain, and held a question & answer session about the situation in Ukraine.

Malanka Benefit Dance Brings Boston Community Together
The Sunflower of Peace Foundation along with the American Ukrainian Educational Center of Boston organized a Malanka Benefit Dance that took place on February 6. The purpose of the event was raise funds for special project that involves bringing medical equipment to Ukraine, and training technicians to use the equipment in order to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. UFCU is proud to be the main presenting sponsor of this event. More information can be found on sunflowerofpeace.org.
 
Schedriy Vechir Celebrated in Sacramento
SACRAMENTO-Malanka /Schedriy Vechir Celebrated in Sacramento

On January 23rd, the Ukrainian Heritage Club of Northern California celebrated its annual Malanka/Schedriy Vechir at the Veterans Memorial Center in Davis, California. The Club has celebrated this event for 20 years and this year nearly 300 people attended, setting a new attendance record. The evening was filled with beautiful Ukrainian traditions, including delicious food, singing and dancing, and special performances by talented guests, who sang carols and played instruments. Furthermore there were games and competitions, including best kutia competition.

The purpose of the Malanka was to raise funds for good causes. Since the crisis in Ukraine the Club has held many fundraisers to help needy refugees, orphaned children, and wounded soldiers. Because of this Malanka the Club was able to support two injured disabled soldiers undergoing rehabilitation in Los Angeles, Serhii Titarenko and Rustam Rosul, who were also special guests at the event. The Club thanks all those who attended and those who helped make this a very special Malanka successful. The Club also thanks the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union for its support of the event. Українське Різдво в Каліфорнії
9 січня 2016 року в місті Сакраменто відбувся черговий 24-й Різдвяний Фестиваль Української Пісні та Поезії “Різдво-2016”. На протязі бiльш нiж 20 останнiх років фестиваль здобув значної популярності серед місцевого українства. Свято об‘єднує представникiв рiзних церков, деномiнацiй, органiзацiй, збирає багато гостей та транслюється в прямому радіо ефірі, охоплюючи Північну Каліфорнію та сусідні штати.

У програмі фестивалю прийняли участь як місцеві митці музики та поезії, пастори, спонсори, так і гості з інших штатів та України зокрема. Фестиваль пройшов у Різдвянному настрої, згідно кращих традицій української громади Північної Каліфорнії, був сповнений глибокого духовного змісту та вказував як формою так і задумом на головного героя Різдва – Ісуса Христа, народженого в серцях вірних його послідовників- християн.

On February 7th, the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Seattle officially opened its doors to the community. Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Valeriy Chaly and recently appointed Honorary Consul Valeriy Goloborodko took part in the opening ceremony. Slavic Chorale Concert in Washington

The Slavic Chorale, from Sacramento CA, performed at the Slavic Christian Center in Tacoma WA. The concert was called Judgement Day and took place on October 17. JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge
UFCU Staff Participates in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge 5K

UFCU staff volunteered their time for the second year in a row to participate in the 5 kilometer run to benefit a non-profit organization. This year the event attracted 9,967 participants from 399 local companies. Proceeds from the run will benefit the American Red Cross of Greater Rochester. UFCU Staff Participates in a Local Food Drive

The Rochester Chapter of Credit Unions conducted the 2nd Annual Credit Union Food Drive. Fourteen local credit unions participated in the food drive which took place during Youth Week, April 22-28. Eighty pounds of food items were collected by UFCU employees and donated to Open Door Mission - a Christian Rescue Mission providing for the spiritual and physical needs of the impoverished and homeless men, women and children of Rochester.

The race/fitness walk, which took place in Canandaigua, NY, on June 9 benefits life saving services provided by Mercy Flight Central - an independent non-profit organization of air medical professionals, devoted to integrity and compassion, providing critical care to the sick and injured. UFCU sponsors the UAFGR Annual Dance Recital in Rochester

The Annual Dance Recital of the Ukrainian Arts Foundation of Greater Rochester took place at Willink Middle School. This year's installment was entitled "The Hutzul and the Rusalka On the Night of Ivana Kupala". It was a celebration of the Carpathian Regions with costumes music and dance from that area. Over 120 dancers performed on stage. The mission of the UAFGR is to advance Ukrainian culture through dance. The UAFGR is an all-volunteer organization and provides dance Scholarships to the Roma Prima Dance Camp and Workshop at Soyuzivka every summer. 23 Students Graduate from the Ukrainian Heritage School in Sacramento
UFCU is proud to sponsor the Ukrainian Heritage School of Ukrainian Studies in Sacramento Calif.

Funds provided to the school by UFCU were used for the printing of the 20th anniversary calendars, to fund various cultural events, and for the graduation ceremony banquet.
23 students graduated from the Ukrainian Heritage School in Sacramento this year. The graduation ceremony banquet took place on May 12 in Rancho Cordova, Calif. The evening was highlighted with performances by a brass band conducted by Oleksandr Zhuravel, and a choir and bandurist ensemble under the direction of Olha Oliynyk. This year the school celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Mikhail Tkach, UFCU Sacramento Branch Manager, and Orest Kuzo, UFCU Sacramento Branch Teller, visited the graduation ceremony to express congratulations to the graduates. ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Ukrainian Pentecostal Church, Penfield, N.Y., is our newest common bond member. We are pleased to have them a part of our credit union family. Several UFCU staff and board members recently attended a church service at Ukrainian Pentecostal Church to greet and welcome the church members. The service was followed by a festive reception with delicious Ukrainian food.
